Adobe Captivate 2: Trial Users Beware, Your Published Movies Will Time-Bomb!

Those of you who are putting off purchasing Captivate 2 until after your 30-day trial expires, beware. While the trial version of the software is fully- functioning, projects that you publish are not!

Say it aint so, Joe!

Sorry, it’s so. Open your project using the trial version of Captivate 2 and then choose Project > Preferences. On the Start and End tab, notice that Project expiration date is selected, and you cannot disable it. Any movies you publish will expire 30 days from the day the trial version of Captivate was installed on your computer (not 30 days from the day you published the project). Ouch!

Not to worry though. Movies you create with the 30-day trial of Captivate 2 do not expire, even after the trial period is over. If you purchase the software, you’ll be able to open the trial files and, if you check the Project expiration date, you’ll notice that the feature is off by default.

  1. Thanks for this note.. I am working on a project with the Trial version and this note saved my a$$.
One additional item to add here. I was using the Trial version to build a client project, thinking I would activate it yesterday by buying the Upgrade online via Adobe’s web site. Well it isn’t available for online purchase/download, thus no quick activation serial number. I had to pay expedited shipping to get the box version so I can get a serial number to activate my Trial version in order to now republish my movies so my client’s files don’t time out. This is the first time I’ve seen this. I complained to customer service but nothing I can do but wait 3-5 days for the box to get here.

  4. Setting project preferences
You can set a variety of project preferences. Any preferences you select are for the currently open project only, enabling you to set different preferences for different projects.
Tip: If you want to set project preferences and use those same preferences to create more projects in the future, you can do it easily. Simply create a blank project, set preferences by using the following procedure, and then save the blank project as a template. You can use the new template to create as many projects as you need.
